It was one of the biggest defeats in Liverpool’s recent Premier League history as Aston Villa thrashed them the last Sunday. The reigning champions had the bigger names on paper, but the home team has other plans in mind. Even though Salah scored two, it was not enough to compensate for the mistakes at the back.
But it is just not luck that Villa was able to score seven past Virgil van Dijk and company. The moves they made in the transfer market have definitely paid off compared to some other big teams in England.
Ollie Watkins, the man who starred against Liverpool with three goals, was the best buy for them this season. The 24-year-old was brought in from Brentford for an estimated fee of 33 million Euros.
They added power to the midfield, bringing in Ross Barkley from Chelsea on loan. The youngster has shown what he can do whenever he was given a nod in the first team for the Blues. Barkley was one of the scorers against Liverpool, which was his debut for the Lions.
As an addition to the goalkeeping section came in the form of Emiliano Martinez from Arsenal. Into the defense came Matty Cash from Nottingham forest for whom Villa paid 16 million Euros.
Another highlight was not in spending dough but retaining talent. They did well to keep Jack Grealish. The Englishman was under the radar of Manchester United since the last season, another transfer that did not go through along with Jadon Sancho. The midfielder has done exceptionally so far, scoring and assisting three each in his three appearances.
