After a long period of confusion, Kerala Blasters FC has officially been taken over by new owners. In a press conference conducted in Kochi, it was announced that UAE-based Al Fursan Sports Investment LLC, a consortium headed by a member of the Sharjah royal family, Sheikh Ahmad bin Faisal Al Qasimi, will take over the Blasters by next season. The current owners, Magnum Sports Pvt. Ltd. will sell 100% ownership to the Arabian owners.

It is clear that the takeover will happen in phases and will only be completed by the end of the 2026/27 season. Even though the exact numbers of the deal are not made public yet, there are reports that the club is currently valued at over ₹100 crores (just over 10 million USD). For this upcoming season, Ofeoh Sporty India, a Kerala-based sports management firm, will be taking care of the day-to-day activities of the club, said the CEO Thameem Anwar during the meeting.

“We are happy to be part of this iconic club. We guarantee that the club is in safe hands. Club is in the hands of Malayalees. The Manjappada and all football fans in Kerala will be happy in the coming days,” said Thameem.

The current Blasters CEO Abhik Chatterjee, Ofeoh Sporty representative Sharath Kuniyil, Birbal Sports & Entertainment representatives Jitesh Mehra and Ronak Dalal, were also part of the press meeting.

It was announced that Kochi would continue to be the home of the Blasters this season. During the press meeting, Thameem also mentioned the possibility of a new stadium as well as the possibility of a friendly match for the Malabar fans of the Blasters. The phrase ‘Project Blasters’ was thrown around a lot too, and that the location of the new stadium will be finalized after planning.

Thameem also confirmed that Adrian Luna, the Uruguayan midfielder, will be playing for KBFC this season. “More updates about the whole squad and signings will be released in the coming days. Ashley Westwood will continue as the Blasters coach. He will join the team tomorrow at the practice facility,” added Abhik. Representatives have also mentioned that Sheikh Al Qasimi will be present at the opening game in Kochi Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

The official confirmation about the new ownership is late as it was supposed to be completed during the Onam festival. But now it’s official, even though it was a bit close to the start of the new season.

The ISL 2026/27 season starts on 10 October 2026 and with minimal time the Blasters have to finalize a squad and be ready for the competition with minimal time on their hands. Fans of KBFC are hopeful that this new direction, with affluent ownership, can give them the elusive domestic title and maybe more.
